Comparative advantage, made tangible around one table.

In Break Point!, players become the economic leaders of different countries. They produce resources at country-specific costs, negotiate trades, respond to events, and build the infrastructure required by their private mission.

Core economic concept

Comparative advantage is the ability to produce a good or service at a lower opportunity cost. The game turns that idea into a reason to specialize and trade.

02

Set up the game

  1. 01

Randomly give every player one country card and one mission card.

  2. 02

Keep country cards visible to everyone. Mission cards remain private.

  3. 03

Give each player 50,000 BP: three 10,000s, three 5,000s, three 1,000s, three 500s, and five 100s.

  4. 04

Place every player on Start and move clockwise around the board.

  5. 05

Arrange the resource tokens, infrastructure tokens, and event-card deck beside the board.

03

Take a turn

Roll one die and move clockwise. Every time you complete a lap, collect a 20,000 BP bonus. Then resolve the space where you land.

Production space

Buy the resource shown.

Pay the production cost printed on your country card. You may buy any quantity, with no purchase limit.

Trading space

Choose one player and negotiate.

Trading spaces sit at two corners and at Start. Name the resource, quantity, and price. Prices move in 100 BP increments. The trade is one-way: the chosen player may sell, but may not buy in the same exchange. To refuse, shout “Break Point!” and end the negotiation.

IMF space

Pause, receive aid, and repay.

Enter after certain events or when you cannot pay an amount due. Miss one turn, then leave automatically with a 20,000 BP bailout. You cannot trade until the debt is repaid, although another player may repay part of it for you.

Infrastructure space

Convert resources and build.

Three identical resources create one matching infrastructure. You may convert resources even if another player has built on that space. Installation is optional, and uninstalled infrastructure still counts toward your mission.
04

Build and maintain infrastructure

Iron × 3Railway

Rice × 3School

Coal × 3Power plant

Timber × 3Hospital

Install infrastructure only when you land on an infrastructure space. Installation costs 10,000 BP per token. A space may hold up to three of the same infrastructure, added over multiple visits.

2 installed10,000 BP toll

3 installed15,000 BP toll

Maintenance: every fifth turn you take, submit four resource tokens matching your installed infrastructure. The payment remains four tokens regardless of how many infrastructure tokens are installed. If you cannot pay, remove one infrastructure token.
